Do you know a potential Rotary Peace Fellow?

Our Club supports the Rotary Peace Fellowship programme. Each year, Rotary International awards fully funded fellowships for dedicated future leaders from around the world. The programme develops the capacity of peace and development professionals to become effective catalysts for peace, as they progress through their careers. Rotary sponsored students at the University of Bradford (the world’s largest university research centre for the study of peace and conflict) form part of a global cohort of high-flyers from all backgrounds, each studying for a Master’s degree related to international peace-building, reconciliation, development and sustainability. Others study at one of the other four Rotary Peace Centres around the world. For many of them, the programme would be out of reach without the financial support of Rotary International, which pays all tuition fees, international travel and provides a grant to cover the cost of accommodation and living expenses.

Members of The Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge provide support by acting as host counsellors for some of the individual students. This year we are thrilled to be hosting Bhawna, a deeply impressive young woman from Mumbai. She already has a BSc and MBAs in Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Management and has spent 13 years of her life devoted to the development sector. She speaks five languages and is now learning Mandarin. In previous years we have hosted students from Afghanistan, Fiji, Colombia, the USA, Syria, Georgia and elsewhere. Often, the students have extraordinary life histories and it is our privilege to get to know them.
