Hebden Bridge Flood Action Group
Remember this nightmare? We have given a £500 grant to help the Hebden Bridge Flood Action Group mitigate the damage if it happens again. This money will go towards maintaining their essential stock of sandbags.
The Action Group is a vital grassroots initiative that emerged in response to the devastating floods that have repeatedly affected the town, most notably in 2012, 2015 and 2020. Comprised of local volunteers and community leaders, the group works tirelessly to promote the interests of residents, coordinate flood preparedness, and support those impacted by flood events. Their efforts include raising awareness about flood risks, encouraging property-level protection measures, and collaborating with local authorities and organisations to ensure that community voices are heard in flood planning and response strategies. The group’s resilience and dedication have been instrumental in fostering a strong sense of solidarity and practical support among residents and businesses.
Over the years, the Hebden Bridge Flood Action Group has played a central role in shaping local flood resilience, advocating for both immediate relief and long-term solutions. They have contributed to public consultations, supported the introduction of innovative flood alleviation schemes, and helped organise community workshops to share best practices and learning. The group’s work is complemented by the presence of flood wardens and other volunteer networks, all of whom are committed to minimising the impact of future flooding events. By emphasising collaboration, education, and proactive planning, the Hebden Bridge Flood Action Group continues to be a key force in building a safer, more resilient community.
