Rotary extends support for Valley Community Meals

Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge has approved a further six months of funding for Valley Community Meals, continuing an ongoing grant of £200 per month (totalling £1,200) to underpin this valued local service.

Valley Community Meals has just completed yet another highly successful six‑month period, during which it has continued to provide a weekly three‑course meal at the Good Shepherd and takeaway meals for those who need to eat at home. The number of meals served has grown from over 35 per week to an average of around 45 per week in recent weeks, reflecting rising demand.

With the help of Rotary funding, the project has been able to maintain high‑quality food, sourcing most meat from a local butcher in Hebden Bridge and many of its vegetables – supplemented by donations – from a Mytholmroyd supplier. Guests experiencing food poverty have described the meal as “the only decent meal they get in a week” and “a lifeline”, underlining the importance of this regular provision.

While addressing food poverty remains a core aim, Valley Community Meals is open to all and is increasingly supporting older people who are isolated and lonely, offering both a nutritious meal and a chance to socialise. A committed team of volunteers has made long‑term commitments to running the service week by week, providing stability and continuity for guests.

The Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge is pleased to continue partnering with Valley Community Meals to support the well‑being and social cohesion of the Hebden Royd community.
