World Polio Day

20 million children saved from paralysis!

Today, on World Polio Day, we celebrate how far we’ve come and renew our commitment to finishing the job.

Since Rotary pioneered the global fight to end polio in 1985, cases have fallen by 99.9%, saving more than 20 million children from paralysis.

Ending polio remains Rotary International's number one humanitarian goal. Our progress so far is one of the world's greatest public health achievements, and Rotary members have been at its heart.

But our work isn’t done, and "almost" isn't close enough. Polio still exists in a few regions, and until it is gone everywhere, it remains a threat to children everywhere.

Most of the money raised by the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge at our events such as the Vintage Weekend and Duck Race goes to local causes, but we contribute £1,000 most years to this Rotary International initiative that indirectly benefits us all.

Thank you to everyone who supports our fundraising, helping to ensure that vaccines reach every last child where they are needed.

Together, we’ve changed the course of history. Together, we will end polio for good.t
