A rare opportunity to view and buy the work of Brian Boocock (1941–2024), a much-loved local artist whose paintings celebrate the distinctive landscape, industrial heritage and everyday character of Hebden Bridge and the Calder Valley.

Brian’s work ranges from sweeping hill and townscape views to old textile mills, canal-side scenes, tucked-away farms and familiar local landmarks. Painted with a close eye for detail and a deep affection for the area, these are artworks that reward repeated looking: reminders of a favourite walk, a much-loved view, a home, or a personal connection with the valley.

Brian lived and worked locally for much of his life. As he put it:

“I have been painting the mills and hills surrounding Hebden Bridge for over 40 years and have been inspired by the changing landscape and the massive buildings which are a part of our industrial heritage.”

He was also an accomplished designer, known for his innovative carpet and rug designs and for creating the elaborate Hebden Bridge Millennial Clock near St George’s Bridge.

• Saturday 14 November: 11am–4pm

• Sunday 15 November: 11am–4pm

Buying a painting or print

Signed original paintings will be available to purchase, alongside unsigned limited-edition prints. Each print edition is limited to a maximum of ten copies and is priced from £80 unframed.

The exhibition offers the chance to acquire a distinctive local artwork for your own home or to choose an unusual and lasting Christmas present for someone with a connection to Hebden Bridge, Calderdale or Yorkshire’s industrial heritage.

All proceeds from sales will support the Charity Trust Fund of the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge, helping the club fund projects and good causes in the local community.
