Exciting new Coiners Film at Heptonstall Museum!
Helped by a £1,000 grant from the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge, The Friends of Heptonstall Museum have just released a new short film, "Weight In Gold”, aimed at introducing children to the fascinating story of the Cragg Vale Coiners. It brings to life the tale of the notorious 18th-century counterfeiting gang, led by David Hartley, whose exploits became legendary throughout the Calder Valley.
Blending historical facts with engaging storytelling, the film uses clear language and lively visuals to help young viewers understand the hardships and choices faced by people in the area during the Industrial Revolution.
The project forms part of a wider educational offering for schools and community groups alongside for self-guided visits as well as opportunities to take part in interactive workshops, where children can learn more about the lives of those involved. By making local history accessible and exciting, the Friends of Heptonstall Museum hope to inspire a new generation to connect with and preserve the unique heritage of their community.
It will be premiered with the Heptonstall Brownies on June 6th, where they’ll also use a drama workshop to explore the themes it covers and help them achieve their history badge.
